Paul Henry Nitze, author of the basic U.S. strategy against the Soviet Union at the start of the Cold War and later a key negotiator of U.S. -Soviet arms accords that helped dismantle the global conflict, died of pneumonia Tuesday at his home in Georgetown.
James Martin Capozzola: Missing Meetings Paul H. Nitze has passed away. A shame. He didn't even get to sign up with the latest incarnation of the Committee on the Present Danger, CPD III.
Nick Gillespie: Whole Post obit here. Curious tidbit: A Democrat by affiliation, he hated Jimmy Carter and did what he could while out of power to undermine the Man From Plains' foreign policy.
Betsy Newmark: Paul Nitze has died. Rest in peace.
Pejman Yousefzadeh: PAUL NITZE, R.I.P. Paul Nitze went to my high school and came back to it when I was in my senior year to talk to students interested in politics and international relations.
Cori Dauber: TRULY THE END OF AN ERA — Read this man's biography and you're reading the history of a bygone world; it's just strange...
Josh Marshall: Paul Nitze, a giant. Dead at 97.
